Peru Maravilloso: Vintage Latin, Tropical & Cumbia

Tiger’s Milk Records label is dedicated to releasing quality music made in Peru: from punk to funk, chicha to cumbia and folk to electronica, past and present.
With a focus on ‘60s and ‘70s Latin and tropical music, the compilation Peru Maravilloso features a selection of vintage cuts and unknown treasures from one of Peru’s most exciting musical eras. The vast majority of these songs were only ever pressed once on vinyl and have remained unreleased since.
Songs here stem from different places – influences of soul-jazz, psychedelia and traditional Andean music can all be heard in the soundscape of this “maravilloso” 15-song-selection.

My favourite track is La Cumbia Del Pacurro by Juaneco Y Su Combo which you can clearly hear influenced Meridian Brothers.

Neneh Cherry and The Thing – Golden Heart

The Thing are a punk-influenced Scandanavian jazz trio who have jammed with Thurston Moore and Jim O’Rourke, and also covered work by PJ Harvey, White Stripes, and Lightning Bolt.

Golden Heart comes from Neneh Cherry and The Thing’s one-off 2012 album The Cherry Thing. The song was written by Don Cherry, Neneh’s step-father. The album contains beautiful covers of other prominent artists, such as Madvillain, Martina Topley-Bird and the Stooges.
