Shilpa Ray – Pop Song For Euthanasia

Shilpa Ray released her debut solo album Teenage and Torture in 2011 on Knitting Factory Records. She released it as part of a group Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers who played bluesy punk rock that completely enchanted Nick Cave. As a result, he brought her along a European tour as an opener and as a backup singer in the USA.

She is now releasing an album Last Year’s Savage on our favourite Northern Spy Records, out next week (May 19th). The two tracks I’ve heard from it ae breathtaking!
It is being described as a mix of Tom Waits, Nina Simone, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and The Devil… I love the harmonica sound on the track Pop Song For Euthanasia.
