Saul Williams is back: He shares with us Burundi (featuring Emily Kokal of Warpaint), a track inspired by his travels around Africa, Burundi drums and studying about the coltan trade controversies in the east part of D. R. Congo (near Burundi’s border).
Burundi’s drums have made the UNESCO World Heritage list and achieved worldwide recognition via The Royal Drummers of Burundi.
Drums were a symbol of strength of the king and had the power of unifying the nations and tribes of Burundi. The country clained independence in 1962 and transitioned from monarchy to republic (i.e. military regime, unfortunately) in 1966.
